The role of a web designer in making the online business successful is to make the website look good and make the website functional so that it draws users to the website which will allow them to interact with the online business more. They should be familiar with creating an online business so that can know what features and things to add that will help with the marketing of the business. A web designer helps with creating an online business by creating the whole design for the business's main online marketing which would be the website. When researching they have to look at other sites competitors and see how they can do better than those websites in the new website they are designing.
What are websites good for?
Websites help business owners spread the word about their products. Websites are also the first things that people see when interacting with your business, this allows your business get more attraction which then makes it so that the business can get more sales. A website also gives you a controllable digital space, this allows for you to promote your business in any way you want instead having a marketing professional promote your business in way you might not wanted it to be promoted. People aren't likely to trust a business that may look sketchy, this is where a website comes comes in handy since you can elaborate more on your business with videos, customer reviews, ebooks, and white papers, this helps establish credibility with new coming users and customers which would help with sales. Data can be collected from your website to see what brings the most attraction and sales to it, this can help a business owner by looking at the data and doing more of what is doing good with their customer in their business. What is Social Media good for? Social media helps the brand connect to their audiences. The way this happens is because social media's main purpose is to make bonds with the business or user's audience. Making bonds with other users on social media's allows the creation of a community for a brand which also makes it so that your brand/business grows faster. Social media also helps your brand build reputation through the connections and community you would build through social media. Social media is also really good for sharing around your business since the more exposure your content gains the more influence your business has, your brand can also reach new audiences through the use of hashtags. Social media is also a really good way to market your brand/business since users are encouraged to like, share or comment on your videos. Explain how and why people & companies should use both websites and social media to have an online presence. Companies should use both websites and social media since websites are the first form of connection that most people have to your business and because social media promotes interaction with your brand/business which could make them a future customer. Websites and social media in general are just one of the best ways to market your company and show your credibility. List pros & cons of each Social media pro: Social media allows audiences to interact with the brand/business unlike a website. Social media pro: Social media allows you to humanize your brand. Social media pro: Social media allows you to share content that is engaging and interactive. Social media pro: Social media allows you to reach new communities and audiences through the use of hashtags. Website pro: You get full control over your brand/business. Website con: It can be harder to market a website. Social media con: You don't have full control over the website. Give your opinion on which you feel is a more effective way to promote yourself or your business I feel that social media is a more effective way to promote your website. This is because with social media you are actively promoting your business and you are interacting with your audiences a lot more than on a website. Social media also allows you to connect to many more different audiences than a website can due to the fact that social media has built in ways to do that like hashtags. Social media also allows you to build the image and reputation of your brand, another reason why it is more effective is that if someone find your brand reputable and shares your content social media encourages people to engage with the content if they do view it which is a lot more effective than the promoting a website can do. 2 Differences I feel are important between websites and apps
Screen size I believe that screen size is one of the most important distinctions between a website and an app. I say this because due to the screen size a lot of things change for example there would be less information, only important stuff on the screen, and a different layout. Apps also usually have pull out menus whereas websites will have the menu already out making it more efficient to get to where you want faster. Interaction Interaction is also important due to the size of the screen for mobile and the different tools that you can use on a pc like a mouse. For mobile you have to use your fingers, so the buttons on apps are usually a lot bigger so that you don't make a misclick. Whereas buttons on websites are usually a bit smaller since they are targeted more towards computers which have cursors which you can be more precise with. On websites you can also hover over certain things with your cursor to get additional information whereas you can't do that on apps. The options that I think are the most important for inclusive design
Define accessibility I feel that this is very important for inclusive design since defining accessibility can affect people with disabilities and people that don't disabilities also. This is helpful for people who are also on phones since the text can become bigger and main options/parts of the website can become more readily available. Simplify language I feel that simplifying language is important for people that are disabled and not. This is because being able to read easier is a pro for everyone. When the typography isn't great people who are visually impaired can struggle to read, and a good amount of people around the word are visually impaired, like even people with glasses are considered visually impaired since there eyesight only improves by 5% statistically. So to improve on that you should align text to the left or right only, underline links for added visual contrast, enforce line spacing at 1.5x the font size Paragraph spacing, and the paragraph width should be no more than 80 characters. Don't create pressure Having a bunch of pop ups on the screen can be really annoying in general, it is really bothering for impaired people especially since it can create a lot of pressure on them since it already can take them some time to read some text properly. For people with motor impairments it can also take a long time for the to close the pop ups to be able to start reading again, if that happens over and over it would take them a very long time to read all of the text which is not a good thing. Does the simplicity of a collapsable menu trump the functionality of visible menus?
I believe that the simplicity of a collapsable menu doesn't trump the functionality of a visible menu. My reasoning for this is that if you're on a website for a certain reason and you need to get to that certain section of the website you don't have to waste time trying to find the menu and find the option in that menu that you want, you can just get straight to the point. My opinion on the hamburger menu In my opinion, the hamburger menu is worth using. This is due to its simplicity and its amazing organization. When designing a website you want to keep your website simple and clear which the hamburger menu helps with since when you first enter the website you won't be bombarded with all of the options that a visible menu gives you, in turn, this makes users more likely to stay and check your website out some more. A hamburger menu also helps to make your website more mobile-friendly since there are fewer buttons that you might accidentally press with your fingers, it also helps by keeping the design clean and only showing the most important things first on your small screen. Colour palette For the colour palette for a Shrove Tuesday website I would choose a brown, yellow, and beige like colour palette. The reasoning behind my choice is that Shrove Tuesday is very popularly known for its pancakes which usually have the colour of brown with a beige underlining and have a goldish-yellow syrup on them in most pictures. Those are also the most common colours that come up when your search for images for Shrove Tuesday. Font I would use a serif type font with italics turned on for a website for Shrove Tuesday. A serif type font with italics on has an old feeling to it, as if you're writing with an old fountain pen, which is why I think it would be the best font to use for a Shrove Tuesday website since Shrove Tuesday is a centuries old tradition. Picture
I choose the picture at the top of the blog since I feel that it represents Shrove Tuesday properly. I say this because the picture has someone making pancakes in it, which is what a lot of people do on Shrove Tuesday. Is creating a brand really important?
I would say that creating a brand is important because that is what separates you from different companies. For example, if you have a clothing company but you don't have a brand no one will buy your clothing because nothing is making your brand special. A designer company like Bape has good clothing but to spend 300 dollars on a hoodie is a little ridiculous, the only reason that people buy stuff from Bape is because of how good their branding is, the same goes for other designer companies like Supreme, Gucci, and Balenciaga. So if you don't have good branding you won't get anyone to buy your clothing. Why can't you just sell the product? You can't just sell your product since your brand is what attracts customers and promotes your product. Nobody will buy your items if you try to sell them without a brand since there is nothing that sets them apart from other products on the market. So, to conclude, you must have a brand because it is what distinguishes your products from others. As a web designer, do you really have to figure out all the "brand" details first? As a web designer, you do have to figure out all of the brand details first. This is because, without a brand, you won't know what to base your website's content and design on. Not understanding which designs to create would be bad for your website's and brand's advertising which would drive visitors away rather than draw them in. The Apple website is a good-looking website in my opinion. I think this is true for a few different reasons, those are, the colour scheme of the website is simple but elegant and easy to look at, the navigation bar on the top allows for easy navigation across the entire website, the animation on the website when scrolling makes it easy on your eyes, also when you hover over an item, that item pops out with an animation, the apple website has fast access to their most popular and new items at the time on their homepage which can allow you to stay up to date on their products, finally my last reason is that with upcoming dates like valentines day, the apple website makes sure to stay up to date and put the best items to purchase from their store for that certain important date.
